Jeanne I. Thompson was born and educated in Nassau in public schools culminating with the Government High School and she completed her education at Wolmer's Grils School in Kingston, Jamaica.

A member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple Jeanne was called to the Degree of the Utter Bar by that society in November 1964. She was subsequently called to the Bar of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in January 1965.

Jeanne commenced the practice of law in the Chambers of Dupuch & Turnquest under the tutelage of the late Hon. Eugene Dupuch Q.C. and Sir Orville Turnquest Q.C. She later jointed the law firm of the late Sir Kendal Isaacs Q.C. and was a partner in the firm of Isaacs, Johnson & Thompson. Jeanne formed her own firm in 1981 and practiced on her own until she ascended to the Supreme Court Bench in January, 2002. She retired as a Justice of The Bahamas Supreme Court of the Bahamas in March 2007.

In addition to her legal background Jeannie also worked as a journalist with the Nassau Guardian from 1974 through 1978 when she took up leave of absence from the law.

She wrote a weekly column in the Nassau Guardian for many years and was the co-author of the first Bahamian soap opera, "The Ferguson's of Farm Road" and the author of the radio soap opera "Sam Finley's Sandcastle".

Although in her early career Jeanne practiced in the criminal courts, her forte is on the civil side of the courts with emphasis on Matrimonial Law.
